Teachers and media specialists along with public and academic librarians involved with History Day are invited to attend this info-filled day focused on making the most of library resources for students and teachers working on History Day in Minnesota.

Wednesday, November 4
8:00am – 4:30pm
Minnesota History Center – St. Paul, MN

Metronet, Metropolitan Library Service Agency (MELSA), and History Day in Minnesota are joining forces to present a conference-style workshop to help teachers and students effectively use library resources. Participants will learn the steps of a History Day project and how it differs from the ordinary research project. Twenty break-out sessions on research, reliable resources, and responsible use of information will provide tools and tips on making History Day a success for students, teachers, and librarians. A special panel of “Innovative Individuals in History” will highlight the day.

Lunch in Café Minnesota and parking are included in the $40 registration fee. Registration deadline is October 28 and space is limited to the first 100 registrations. Online registration can be found at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?s...KaeIb3Aw_3d_3d. Additional information (publicity flyer and sessions/schedule) can be found at www.metrolibraries.net. Questions? Email info@metronet.lib.mn.us.

Metronet and MELSA are state-sponsored organizations that work to bring all kinds of libraries—public, university, school, and special—from around the metro area together to tackle relevant issues and services.
History Day @ Your Library

11-04-2009
History Day @ your library is a daylong event for teachers, librarians, and media specialists who work with students on History Day research. It is co-sponsored by Melsa, Metronet, and Minnesota History Day. Up to 20 breakout sessions are offered throughout the day on library and information topics including basic search strategies, ELM databases, primary resources, and more. It will be held November 4, 2009 at the Minnesota History Center from 8:30-4:30.

One of the goals of History Day @ your library is to introduce students and teachers to the rich library& archive resources that are available in the Twin Cities and in greater Minnesota. To that end, we are looking for 3-4 librarians from special collections that are related to this year’s theme Innovation in History: Impact and Change to participate on a panel explaining their libraries resources and how students can access these resources.

The theme is broadly interpreted to go beyond the obvious topics such as inventions. Innovation suggests creative new approaches to any facet of life. Students might explore innovation in artistic or musical forms. Changes in political, social or religious institutions or arrangements might be considered innovations, as new ways to respond to problems facing society. The important aspect of any National History Day research project is to situate the topic in the historical context.

You can read more about History Day and the 2009-2010 theme here: http://www.nationalhistoryday.org/AnnualTheme.htm

If you would like to be on this panel, please contact me. My information is below.

Thanks.
