Mn Digital Library & Mn Historical Society Workshops

10-08-2009
The Minnesota Digital Library is collaborating with the Minnesota Historical Society, an MDL partner, on the digitization goal of their
Minnesota Legacy History Grants program to distribute Legacy Amendment funding. (Information at http://www.mnhs.org/about/grants/legacy/index.htm)

MHS, an MDL partner, is working closely with the Minnesota Digital Library on digitization projects, relying on MDL experience with digitizing to standards and with providing access to digital collections through Minnesota Reflections (http://reflections.mndigital.org), and with training and educating organizations. The MDL has agreed to assist applicants in preparing projects and in applying for MHS legacy grant funds.

To inform people across the state of this grant project, MHS scheduled a series of workshops. Please consider attending one in your area. Spread the word. In addition to MHS staff, Marian Rengel, MDL Outreach Coordinator, will be on hand to answer questions about digitization projects.

Registration is required for all workshops. Contact Melinda Hutchinson (mailto:melinda.hutchinson@mnhs.org) at MHS to register

Workshop dates and locations:

Oct. 8 – 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Clearwater County Historical Society, Shevlin, MN (Highway 2, 7 miles east of Bagley)

Oct. 9 – 2 to 6 p.m. – Brown County Historical Society, 2 N. Broadway, New Ulm, MN

Oct. 19 – 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Stevens County Historical Society, 116 West Sixth St., Morris, MN

Oct. 20 – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Preston Historical Society, Preston, MN

Oct. 27 – 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Minnesota Discovery Center (formerly Iron Range Research Center) 801 SW Highway 169, Chisholm, MN

Note: MHS is planning a second workshop in the Twin Cities metro area for mid-October. Watch for announcement of this workshop. The Oct. 5 workshop at Hennepin Public Library – Central Branch is full.

MHS has also scheduled two Webinars at which they will discuss the Minnesota Legacy History Grant program.

Webinar dates
Registration information will be available soon.
Oct. 12 – 10 a.m. to noon.

Oct. 14 – 2 p.m. –

MHS expects to have applications materials available to the public in early October. Watch their Minnesota Legacy History Grants web site and the Minnesota Digital Library Web site (http://www.mndigital.org/) for more information.

Digitization is one of 13 project areas within the Minnesota Legacy History Grants program. MHS has agreed to strongly recommend that applicants for digitization projects work directly with the Minnesota Digital Library’s Outreach Coordinator Marian Rengel (mrrengel@stcloudstate.edu).

In addition, the Minnesota Digital Library is preparing to solicit information from vendors and organizations across the state with the capacity and the experience to digitize historical collections. The MDL will gather information on a vendor or organization’s capacity to digitize to MDL standards, the range of the services, the costs for those services and their experience in digitizing rare objects. The MDL will then provide information on qualified digitization providers when organizations request that information.

For more information, contact Marian Rengel at mrrengel@stcloudstate.edu or by calling 320-308-5625.
